The Health Advantage Yoga Center

The Health Advantage Yoga Center

What classes do you teach?
Yoga classes at The Health Advantage Yoga Center are based on the Anusara® style taught by John Friend and the Iyengar style developed by B.K.S Iyengar. Courses are heart-oriented and spiritually inspiring with a focus on each person’s optimal alignment in the poses. Classes are taught progressively and instructors encourage students to listen to their bodies and move at their own pace. Deep relaxation is taught in each class after completion of the postures. Classes include Gentle Yoga, Yoga 1 through Yoga 4, Vinyasa, Yin, Prenatal, and classes for kids and teens.  Our newest classes are Movement, Breath & Meditation, and Lunchtime Yoga.

What effect has yoga had on your students?
Our students have reported that yoga has reduced their stress, helped them sleep, improved their moods, made them more aware of their bodies, increased their flexibility and strength, and reduced aches and pains.

What motivates you to practice today?
The practice brings inner peace, strength and joy to my life.

What effect has yoga had on your students?
I/We see people transform – not just physically but spiritually and emotionally. We’ve seen yoga create a great sense of community and coming together of people that would probably have never met each other had they not found their common light.

We are  offering Karma classes all month for CARE – an organization that helps those in our community who otherwise could not afford to keep their pets. We support many organizations every year on the national and local level – we believe that our pets need the same CARE and support/love that we are able to give to one another.

Flow Yoga offers a variety of classes based on 2 systems – Ashtanga and Universal Yoga. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of all those who come through our doors, for sharing all of our knowledge and delivering more than a physical practice to those who attend our classes.

I teach Hatha Yoga based on the teachings of Swami Sivananda.  I offer a range of classes from the fundamentals of yoga, beginning asana and pranayama classes to more advanced classes.  Meditation is incorporated in each session.

What motivates you to practice today?
I practice yoga in order for the modifications of my mind to decrease.  The motivation to practice yoga is to bring me back to center – to the present.

Apurva Wellness

Students at Apurva Wellness

What effect has yoga had on your students?
My students progress in each session – mostly in physical awareness while practicing asanas and relaxation.  My students also recognize the subtlety in how prana is vital to the modification of their mind, in turn understanding a deeper level of self.

Yoga at Apurva Wellness Center is based on small group and/or individual classes.  The path to wellness is a transformational journey.  As a yoga teacher it is vital for me to give my full attention to each student while they are on their journey to better understand their body, mind, and ultimately, their sprit.

Kundalini Yoga & Pilates

What motivates you to practice today?
I have been practicing Sadhana in the Amrit Vela for over 7 years straight.  It is my motivating force.  I love all aspects of my practice, especially chanting.  I am currently making my first cd of yoga chants that will be available in about a month!

What effect has yoga had on your students?
They are physically more sound and balanced, mentally calm and spiritually aware of their growing consciousness.

What do you enjoy most about the yoga community in Virginia?
I am happy to see the recent growth of yoga’s popularity in Virginia and in the number of new studios popping up in the area.

I have been practicing Kundalini yoga for 20 years now, since the ripe old age of thirteen.  Yoga has been a great part of my life that has developed me in ways that continue to serve me everyday.  Sadhana is the foundation of my practice, a 2 ½ hour combination of chanting, yoga and meditation every morning.  Through Sadhana I have become in tune with my creativity and with the divine within myself and all beings.  I am grateful to open the doors to Radiant Sun and teach the techniques that have helped me transform my life.

Radiant Sun Yoga is a brand new offshoot of Radiant Sun Therapies.  We also offer Hatha and Mat Pilates classes as well as private Pilates classes. Downstairs from the Yoga Studio, we have Massage Therapy, Counseling, Reflexlogy and Reiki, and are delighted to be a part of the growing yoga community in Virginia.

Inner Power Yoga

Prana Flow Yoga Instructor

What motivates you to practice today?

I practice because there is always something new to discover about my body and about myself each and every day. I practice to bring peace to myself in order to bring peace to others.

What effect has yoga had on your students?
I love that my students feel comfortable asking questions. An important aspect of the practice is self-inquiry, and the fact that students are noticing and wondering about things in a particular asana or perhaps the entire class shows that they are looking beyond the seemingly superficial and seeking greater knowledge so that they can better understand themselves and their practice.

What do you enjoy most about the yoga community in Virginia?
I love that Virginia has so many styles of yoga to offer and that there a place for everyone!

Inner Power YogaInner Power Yoga provides a supportive, welcoming, warm and eco-friendly space for all to cultivate a healthy, positive and empowered way of life through the practice of yoga. All levels are welcome to join us in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Yin Yoga classes.
